There was a lot of work done in the USB subsystem after OpenBSD 4.8, wait for 4.9 or try a snapshot.

It's quite likely that the USB controller is quirky or no longer functional, you could go into the BIOS and attempt to disable it there.

Is your Ethernet controller attached via USB?

There isn't much we can do without a complete dmesg and/or a pcidump, even then, bugs should be reported (..with as much info as possible) to the developers.
