wi(4) is a wireless interface. Please study the Examples of the manpage
as suggested before to see how this particular interface can be correctly configured. From the manpage, it appears that this card only supports WEP, but the values still need to be explicitly provided.
Likewise, by writing configuration information to
/etc/hostname.wi0, you will be activating your wireless interface
every time upon boot. Many people prefer to initialize their wireless interface manually, so they know when they are exposed/connected to wireless networks.
