With respect to OpenBSD, several additional points need to be clear when interpreting the information presented on
http://openports.se/:
- Recognize that the ports mentioned on OpenPorts are those in OpenBSD's -current branch, & not necessarily those available for -release. The history of check-in's shown at the bottom of each port's page should be studied to determine what version is available for -release & -stable if either of these is the OpenBSD flavor installed.
- If you are unfamiliar with OpenBSD's flavors, study Section 5.1 of the official FAQ.
- Likewise, do not fall into the trap of thinking that packages compiled for -current can be installed on either -release or -stable. This is discussed in Section 15.3.2 of the FAQ.
As an example, OpenPorts will state that Firefox 8.0.1 is available for OpenBSD. This is true only for
-current. The package for 8.0.1 cannot be run on OpenBSD 5.0-
release. For those wanting to run Firefox 8.0.1, they will need to first install or upgrade to
-current first.
