Maybe I wasnt clear enought with the HOWTO, after You have installed the
/compat/i386 with the script (or by hand), put these commands into the terminal to test if it works:

prompt % alias winecfg="LD_32_LIBRARY_PATH=/compat/i386/usr/local/lib PATH=/compat/i386/usr/local/bin:$PATH /compat/i386/usr/local/bin/winecfg"
prompt % winecfg
After typing
winecfg You should see a WINE configuration window.
