Default [SOLVED]:Opera 11.01 > 11.52 font problem

I've tried to fix this for hours. A third of the sites show an unwanted font in "author mode" on a good part of the text on the page, fixed in "user mode". No googling fixes it, and I've tried commenting out font paths in xorg.conf. Anyone know any xorg or X11 or font configuration file that may be setting the font? or an easy way to figure out which font it is, mabe I can delete it locally. Screenshot attached. (Nor any setting found in Preferences etc, nor opera:config etc.)

Opera sets fonts in ~/.opera/operaprefs.ini in the [Fonts] section.
Just delete the section in any text editor to reset the defaults. (Close Opera first).

I did the equivalent in about:config, and it did not solve it. Per the larger of the attached two files, I think this problem is beyond my expertise for the foreseeable future...

I'm not sure what I should do with the HTML files ... (?)
Anyway, if I were you, I'd double-check my ~/.opera/operaperfs.ini just in case.

You can also just start with a new config to see if it's an Opera configuration issue or some X configuration issue. Just move ~/.opera to a new location (for example: ~/.opera.orig) and start Opera: If the fonts work, you know it's an Opera issue, if they don't, you know it's some other issue with Xorg.

You can just move ~/.opera.orig back to ~/.opera to restore your settings.

N.B. Make sure you exit opera before fiddling with ~/.opera

I just started with a renamed (nonexistant) .opera, per a forum post on a linux forum. The same font problem exists. (I also had removed .Xdefaults...) In UserPrefs in the new version, there are two of four or so checkboxes missing: IIRC "use CoreX fonts , use Xft fonts" (referenced by the larger of the two htm.) So if they were placed back into opera, that might fix it. I think that is the issue discussed in the larger of the two .htm files...

Code:
 cd /etc/X11
mv /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/TTF _TTF
fixed it. Unsure why.

Page rendering issues with opera were fixed, here, largely by a recent 11.xx crash and
restart, but just today updating to 11.60, and continual crashes made it unusable, as well
as practically nothing selectable with the mouse. Luckily I had a backup avail. so rsyncing
from the two install dirs (shown in the .sh /usr/local/bin/opera) (backup) into the recent install rolled it right back. Just a warning...
