Netcraft confirms it.

dying.sh:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

	then echo "Useage: $0 subject"
else
tail -n 9 $0 | sed s/%%THING%%/$1/g

Netcraft confirms it: %%THING%% is dying.

Yet another crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered %%THING%% community today when Ars Technica [arstechnica.com] (and Netcraft) confirmed that %%THING%% sold more than %%THING%% for the week ending April 24th. Coming on the heels of a recent survey which indicated people like saving money when buying a computer this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along: %%THING%% is collapsing in complete disarray.

You don't need to be a Kreskin [amazingkreskin.com] to predict %%THING%%'s future. The hand writing is on the wall: %%THING%% faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for %%THING%% because %%THING%% is dying.Things are looking very bad for %%THING%%. Their offices are dark, the tomb-like sepulchral atmosphere is all that remains. %%THING%% continues to lose market share, red ink flows like a river of blood.

The %%THING%% development team is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house. All major surveys show that %%THING%% has steadily declined in market share. %%THING%% is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If %%THING%% is to survive at all it will be among OS dilettante dabblers and hangers-on. %%THING%% continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, %%THING%% is dead.

Fact: %%THING%% is dying

PCBSD will die like DesktopBSD due to the stubborn refusal by PCBSD developers to admit that PBIs are BIG mistake and creating the viable GUI for packages and ports. The focus of PCBSD should have been work on desktop
features of the FreeBSD like porting proprietary drivers for printing and scanning (sane-backends are half functional on FreeBSD, HLIP is in sad state)
as well as adding the WI driver (it is enough to port OpenBSD drivers) as well
as USB camera drivers (porting uvideo driver from OpenBSD comes to mind).
I'm going to have to disagree with you there. PBIs are an extremely nice way of installing software (something the Linux guys should have picked up on a long time ago) and they make it much easier for the newcomers to the BSD world, especially those who don't like compiling software. If it wasn't for PC-BSD, I probably wouldn't be interested in BSD at all. In addition, the community continues to pick up new people and more interest with every release.

But back to the topic at hand, it's nice to know that a substitute forum like this one is available.

I think we also owe thanks to folks like Carpetsmoker who are diligent enough to go there and send new posters here.

Actually, weiwei sent me back there to unsubscribe my last 50 or so threads. When he gets to the next batch, I suppose I'll have to go back and unsubscribe those. His posting to existing threads is a nuisance.

If the admin over there cleaned up the place and set it straight, would everyone go back? Or is it too late?

Too f**king late. He had his chance, and chose to disregard all of us who tried to contact him to clean up his board.

Good riddance.

As DrJ said, a formally incompetent administrator will remain that way.. even if they briefly look into the issue, the dedication is lost.. clearly they have no respect for the BSD community at large.

Not only that. I do believe this forum is a whole lot better than the older one.
1- It is more active
2- I like more the version of the board

Drugs? Sex?! Hm, I'll have to reconsider why I left that forum again...

Well, the BSDForums pleasure palace of porn has been down for several days now. We've tolled the bell several times announcing that it has vaporized, but maybe this time will be the last.

Ding, dong. The wicked witch is dead.

Are you sure you aren't looking at cached pages?

Hmm... it took 10 minutes to load the <title>... the content doesn't actually come and, and it just keeps waiting... that's a bit dynamic for a cache page isn't it?
