Default How do I upgrade?

I'm using PC-BSD, but using the ports/packages system to install

how do I upgrade my applications? Not just the repositories?

Just curious, I'm really an ubuntu convert to BSD, so please be patient, I'm stuck in the stupid mainstream school of *nix thought lol

If you install using:
portinstall <portname>

Then you upgrade the port by using:
portupgrade <portname>

You should be using the command:
portsnap fetch update

To download all the new ports and updates to ports.

And you can run
portversion -v -l "<"
to see what ports of yours need upgrading.

All as root of course.

Ahh same question was basically posted on pcbsd.forums.org today.

Note that PC-BSD 1.5.1 does not include ports-mgmt/portupgrade out of the box, you'll have to install it manually before you can use portupgrade and it's commands (portsnap is however in the base; and unrelated to portupgrade).

The easiest way is to open a root shell and: # pkg_add -r portupgrade
