Default Windomaker and NeXT-like window managers

Hi to all

I am currently using windowmaker as my main desktop window manager (FreeBSD 7 amd64 release) and I like it very much. I like it's simplicity, configuration without editing text conf files, its speed and much more........

I think that windomaker development "stalled" , since the last version update was more than 2 years ago. For this reason I want to use any other window manager "windomaker like" (except afterstep, which I don't like at all)

I did some googling, and I found that the etoile to be the most close to windomaker and up to date. Did any of you try this ? Any other recommendations from the ports collection?

I have not used other NeXT style wm's because WindowMaker works perfectly for me ;-)

You might look at AfterStep as well.

Yes, I'm also looking forward for etoile to become a usable environment as I like the handling, simplicity and structure very much. However, I've tried the current version and it is far, very far beyond being an alternative or even nearly usable for every day work/playground.
I would suggest to stick to wmaker and the usual GNUStep apps until this project becomes more mature.

I used Window Maker for years but found I was using more
and more GNOME software. Eventually I just switched over.

Window Maker is great if you are happy with what you are
running right now. It has not changed in a long time and I would
not expect it to.
