Default New better MPlayer, the MPlayer 2, fork of original MPlayer

For differences between 1 and 2 check this page:

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

Do you know why it was forked? MPlayer is still active ...

In MPlayer executing any commands forced the player to unpause. This is no longer the case; in MPlayer2 you can change settings, seek, or run other commands while paused.
*drool* finally

>Do you know why it was forked?

Maybe because of the code mess or those rather stubborn maintainers?

Supposedly it forked because the improvements in the Git mirror weren’t being committed by the maintainers of the SVN repo. It looks like the competition spurred some improvements to the main Mplayer; they’ve merged in ffmpeg-mt (multithreading). Maybe more of the stuff in the list will make it into Mplayer(1).

I must say, I like just about everything in that feature comparison list… the question is, will mplayer2 gain enough traction to replace mplayer in package managers anytime soon?

I don't think they are gonna get enough media coverage to make a good go, unless it's plastered on MPlayer's website (if anyone actually uses it lol). But I hope to see this make good steam in the future.
