Default SSH between Linux and FreeBSD

I am able to copy the keys from Linux to FreeBSD; however, with the inverse, I receive
Code:
$ cat *pub|ssh  schrodinger@192.168.1.104 'cat >>.ssh/authorized_keys'
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.104 $PORT: Connection refused
$

There is no server listening on port 22 on .104 - sshd is likely not running.

Its easier to do just # ssh-copy-id schrodinger@192.168.1.104 instead

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

Make sure you own the ~/.ssh/ directory and the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file. Also chmod the authorized_keys file to 600.

Try running the ssh client with -v flag to get debug output. You can add -v up to three times for even more debug output.

Okay.
I did as jggimi stated and I am connected.
Vermaden, since I may also reverse the setup- FreeBSD on the iMac and Fedora on the Quicksilver- I'll use your suggestion at that time.
CarpetSmoker- I'll set permissions as you suggested a little later.

Current environment is QuickSilver:FreeBSD and iMacebian.
