Default Something like adsuck for windows.

Is there anything like adsuck for windows. I'm looking for something that is browser agnostic to place on the wife and daughter's PCs. I would love something like adsuck in the router but it would have to work with wi-fi connections.

At least You can block it in 'static' way:
http://someonewhocares.org/hosts
http://hostsfile.mine.nu/

Put them combined as C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

Don't forget about edexte
r. Its a mini http server that will send a response of a blank image wheneveryour browser tries to reach Localhost so the browser won't keep on trying to load the ad until it finally times out.

Never heard of that, but I'll look into it.

Combining those 2 host files works pretty good. I put it on my wife's machine to test it out and things have been going smooth...till yesterday when a legitimate website would not open. The web site was not in the host file so I haven't figure it out yet.

Some website first check if the advertisements are loaded, if not, well, they do not load

Other problematic sites are those who have stats gathering site put into the NEXT/PREVIOUS links that will redirect to actual 'next' content after gathering the stats from the user.

Thanks, for the clues on what to look into.

The issues on my wife's PC is that the site in was blocking was part of her school website, and the pages that were blocked had no ads. I did find a number of sites in the host file that had similar names that ended in .com or .net but not .edu.

Haven't tested those changes as she's in the middle of finals!
