ATI Radeon HD 4850:

Just to cover the FreeBSD idiosyncrasies did you install xorg from ports with hal disabled or did you use the binary packages? If you used the binary packages did you enable
hald and dbus?

X11 Configuration

I did install from ports with hal enabled and I have in rc.conf hal and dbus enabled and it doesn't works with xorg.conf or without.
Do I need to have in make.conf WITH_NEW_XORG=yes?

This page may be helpful.

Other thoughts are:
1) rename the xorg.conf file so that it is not read and see if Xorg autoconfiguration works.
2) Comment out the deviceid in your xorg.conf
3) Try a live version of PC-BSD. They have implemented
Code:
WITH_NEW_XORG="YES"
WITH_GALLIUM="YES"

I was not lucky but I didn't have WITH_GALLIUM in make.conf.
It didn't work. I don't know which drivers use Linux MInt which Live DVD recognize everything: monitor, gr. card, sound...

I will update ro RC 4 and try again.
Thank you.

It works. I installed FreeBSD 10.0-ALPHA1 and it works like a charm .
I installed WITH_XORG_NEW
WITH_KMS and WITH_GALLIUM in make.conf, patch mesa and installed Xorg and it works. I installed KDE4 4.11.1 and works too. GLGEARS shows better FPS than on Mountain Lion.

Thanks for the help.
I have the problem with sound still...
