Default NSA harvesting facial images

Quote:
The National Security Agency is harvesting huge numbers of images of people from communications that it intercepts through its global surveillance operations for use in sophisticated facial recognition programs, according to top-secret documents.
From N. Y. Times

Next, I imagine, will be camera firmware that uploads direct to NSA Central. Be sure to smile.

People who are unaware that their every move is being watched are inexcusably ignorant of the world in which they live. The prying eyes of governments and corporations is not a secret. The best course of action is to assume one's activities are being monitored, until proven otherwise.

So are you suggesting that there is nothing that We, The People, can do or should do to defend ourselves?

There is lots we can, and should, do. My point was; such activities should surprise no one and people who are concerned about it (which should be everyone, but obviously is not) should always take measures appropriate for their circumstances. One thing I see as a problem is a continuous stream of "breaking news" and people being surprised by it. Such news should be corroboration of what is known that results in, "It is a good thing I do not send sensitive data over the internet (or whatever)." Instead, every piece of news is an alarming revelation.
