Angry Net neutrality and pseuod democracy meet head on

Excuse me for bring my gripe with martin to the attention of the general public hear on the forums at deamonforums, but I belevie he has voiolated my right to free speach granted me by the constitution of the United States (My home Country) just because he has censored a huge segment from my signature, which was my honest opinion about what i see as a problem on several forums to which i contribute on a regular basis.

Hello,

I removed the first part of your signature, I don't think I need to explain why.

In addition, I would like to point out that hostility towards any user, "noob" or otherwise, is not tolerated, if you think someone needs to "RTFM" or is acting like an idiot that you are free point this out to him/her, but do so in a respectful and polite manner.

I am sorry for the rucus iver the signature, but I have had this signature on LinuxQuestions and either jermy the adminstrator , one of his co adminisrtators has given me greif about it nor sensored it. So I do not understand why you guys wouild censor it and sritp me of muy constitutional right of free speach.

Your critique and recommendations on what to do in feature istances of opression such as this are openly accepted.

The part of the signature I removed:

Below our entire conversation (chronological, oldest first), including the message I just sent you.

Your signature was far from inviting anyone to ask a question, it was in fact downright hostile, and the words "Bitching" and "fucking" don't help either...

The constitutional right does not mean you are free to profanity,

And whatever decisions are made at LinuxQuestions have no authority here.

I am not violating anyone's constitutional rights, feel free to say whatever you want on your own site, but on my site I will not tolerate either excessive profanity or hostility towards any individual or a particular group of users.

Even if I would be an U.S. citizen, you would have no grounds what-so-ever to sue me, the first amendment reads:

It should be obvious that I am not "the congress", in addition even the government is allowed to censor things like (excessive) profanity, obscenity, pornography, violence, etc. for obvious reasons.

Also, net neutrality means that a network (i.e. the internet) as a whole should be neutral, not individual sites, so net neutrality has nothing to do with any of this.

Hello,

I'm with Carpetsmoker on this one. Besides the obvious fact that its his site and he'll censor if he wants to (sorry for the lame parody) - freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want. Try going into a crowded theater and yelling "FIRE!!!" and see how quickly you'd be thrown into jail. And you can't hardly say anything on a plane anymore. Also, there are laws against slander (and profanity in some communities). You can't use freedom of speech to tell a lie in court.

For legal precedents, see Roth v. United States(1957) and Miller v. California (1973) - among others. The basic gist is that obscenity is not protected speech. Miller v. California states "This much has been categorically settled by the Court, that obscene material is unprotected by the First Amendment."

Freedom is not the right to do whatever you want to do - that's license. Freedom is the ability to do what you ought to.

Point one, it's sort of silly to put down Windows--it's preachin' to the choir, so to speak, or else the little dog barking at the Rotweiller--hey, is RoddieRod here yet?

Secondly, as Martin points out, this has NOTHING to do with net neutrality. It's simply asking members to hold to a certain code of conduct.

Lastly and most importantly--as he points out, it is his site so free speech has nothing to do with it. If you wish for no moderation at all, I believe that the moderators on bsdforums have stopped censoring or removing any offensive postings. Now, THERE is a forum where they seem to truly honor freedom of speech. As you can see from the result, there are reasons for some moderation.

C'mon, it's not like this is the man screwing over the little guy here. Your original sig was vulgar and offensive!

You're not a lawyer, and I'm not a lawyer, so let's save the Bill of Rights analysis for someone who knows what s/he is actually talking about.

Just let it go. If you're itching to protest something, go protest the tremendous deficit that is threatening to sink this great country.

Freedom of speech is only about the right publicly to criticize the government, or to disseminate an opinion in a public (i.e., government-related) forum. What on earth does this site have to do with either of those? This is a forum run by private, but very generous and decent, individuals. If you cannot abide by their minimal reqirements, you have to consider whether this is a forum for you.

I have refrained from commenting on your current signature, simply because this is a young forum. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with the topics that are discussed here, and it is totally inappropriate.

I've read your posts here, and my gentle advice it to read, learn, and grow up.

IMO the contents of your signature is worse than your use of unparliamentary words (and spelling mistakes ).

BTW, all this discussion about legality of copying posts, copyright and forum legislation is starting to become a real turn-off.

Yeah, I'm here.

And I 2nd what you and DrJ are saying about this thread, but I fear that these 2 points will be missed by the hubris of youth...

Yes, but good for them to have it. Anything I say about it would be sour grapes.

Incidentally, a colleague of mine, one of the most revered names in all of Biotech, had Bill Gates on the Board of Directors of one of his companies. He told me that Gates was the smartest guy he had ever met. Given the caliber of people he has worked with over the years, this is no small praise.

.3-bit Harvard Drop out indeed...

Agreed. I don't go see my accountant to have my transmission rebuilt, and I certainly do not come here for legal advice, ever.

This forum (and its many generous and knowledgeable members) have my utmost respect and complete attention when it comes to one thing and one thing only: BSD.

I guess this means that my plan to get you to join my bogus organization and give me money won't work then, eh? Oh well.

Back to the drawing board.

Probably not. Unless you rebuild transmissions.

Nice to see the admins taking things seriously.

Step 1 is always making the rules. Step 2 is people pushing them to see where the boundaries really are. If step 3 isn't enforcing the rules, then the community is in trouble.

Nice to see, and it is a sign that these forums will become a thriving, useful resource. Thanks, all.

Default no need for profanity

no need for profanity. if we're not all adults on here, let's at least pretend we are.
and it wouldn't hurt to make an effort on spelling.
