Default gem Collisions, duplex mismatch?

Hi all,

I have a sun netra T1 AC 200 with 2 gem interfaces. The switch I have is an ANCIENT Catalyst 2800. It has an 8 port 100mb half duplex card in the switch. Whenever I do a file transfer the collision light flickers like crazy. To me this says duplex mismatch. On my desktop I have let it auto negotiate, and hard coded to 100mb half, I have also put my self in a 10mb port and there is always collisions. If I move the server to a 10mb port, collisions stop. (Just ruling out that my desktop is causing the collisions.) However, I can't seem to get the gem interface to set half-duplex manually.

Only 1 of the gem interfaces is plugged in.

Otter# ifconfig gem1 mediaopt half-duplex
ifconfig: SIOCSIFMEDIA (media): Device not configured
I do not have the password for the switch nor is recovery possible, so I can't see in there. (pre-password recovery days :-D, trust me I have had 4 teachers of mine who work at Cisco and no one can get it)

Any ideas?
