Default Boot NetBSD into GUI

What settings should be used to let NetBSD boot straight into the graphical regime?

Install Xorg. Enable a X Window Display Manager (XDM would be generic, SLiM would be another example but there are other which come with Gnome, KDE, Xfce). Make sure you have start a window manager of you choice by editing .xsession file.

I have Xorg installed and normally I run it by entering 'startx' in console. I don't have .xsession file, the WM/DE is defined in xinitrc (in my case it is GNOME). I uncommented 'xdm=yes' in /etc/rc.conf, but it booted me into 'failsafe mode', which was so poor that twm looked like a WM of your dreams compared to that! That's why I'm asking, there must be some line to be put into rc.conf or another settings file in order to activate configuration from xinitrc straight after boot time.

The graphical login managers (XDM, GDM, KDM...) all require you have the .xsession file in the user's $HOME directory.

You can use ln(1) so that .xinitrc and .xsession are the same file.

$ ln .xinitrc .xsession

Thank you jggimi, this time it worked!
In fact, I found out that there was .xsession file in the /root folder. But I couldn't login as root via XDM, probably for security reasons (?).
