Luckily, none of my favorite products is affected. I can't stand Java, and I've been somewhat neutral to Solaris and MySQL. But, others could be getting nervous over this.
I've never been a _great_ fan of Solaris, since I don't like the way it does some things. But, it at least got the job done (usually). I wonder if it will continue to be developed - or if this will have an impact on OpenSolaris? or Java? I think within a year we'll have a good idea of what Oracle plans on doing with Sun and its products. I guess I'll use Postgres if I need to develop an app that needs a database.

Is the bright yellow signature necessary JMJ? seriously.. what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

oracle is more interested in SUN's cool thread servers(the new multi threaded processors) im sure they must be more focusing on that product line to make a bundle of special optimized oracle with some special license for multi core cool thread servers.
These servers delivered record breaking performance for oracle. Lets see what happens but i guess killing mysql will definitely result something not good for oracle. |

I doubt Java will be seriously impacted, although I wouldn't be surprised if things became less open in the long run. Solaris and the Sun xVM stuff, what better products could they get their hooks into with this deal?
For better or worse, Java ain't going to disappear no matter what happens; any more then BASIC will.
