Fun question-What's the correct pronunciation?
In most of India, Cheroot (pronounced chi-root) is used pejoratively.
So how do we pronounce chroot? Is it SEE-EH-ROOT? or Cheroot? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheroot |

I tend to say SEE-AITCH-root.
(feels like the wrong subforum for this...) |

I've always pronounced it in one syllable: chroot. I guess the closest approximation would be TROOT, like "truth" but with a "t" sound on the end.

I'm totally weird...I always pronounce it "change root" and expect people to know that when I say "type change root" that mean chroot. I don't know why there are certain commands that I do that with. Like dir in DOS...I say "directory".
I work with a guy that came from a Solaris shop and he says 'US er' for /usr and I say 'user'

I would love to be present in the same room as you when you pronounce cd

But the command is obviously pronounced "change directory" whereas the media is "cee dee", especially since I never know it it should be disk or disc.

So how come no one referenced this yet?
