I noticed that too. Has anyone contacted him through the old forum? I'd love to see him here.

I don't know what happened to him, and in my experience he's also difficult to contact...

Also, if you use the "upload from URL" feature the avatar isn't linked to the URL, it is downloaded and hosted by us.
Oh ok Thank You

When it comes to support related things, it's generally been my experience that most user accounts are either spam bots, casual (or compulsive) registers, or people who joined when they had a problem and only show up when they have a question to ask ^_^

While a smaller group usually are people who actually check the forum regularly for one reason or another (personal rain cloud, likes to help, etc)

Hello, all. You asked for it and Carpetsmoker passed the word and here I am! I had pretty much abandoned the other forum for many of the listed reasons. I am presently exploring an iMac with OS X Leopard. I do not have a machine running FreeBSD or any of the other BSDs. I plan to correct that little deficiency in a short while with a dual-boot FreeBSD/Solaris machine. First I need a MB/CPU to add to the rest of the stuff I already have.

If that did happen (Admin trying to renovate) let's try to remember that he provided a good site for us for many years, and keep acrimony and accusations to a minimum.

(Corey_James, acrimony means bitterness, ill-feeling, that sort of thing)
DesktopBSD's forum is as good as dead since years.

Yes, me too. Did you look at that thread about doing su, it's a DesktopBSD thing and I mentioned how we have an important DesktopBSD fellow here.

(All the above was to Oliver)

Not to revive an old thread but, I was just on BSDForums to see if it was still alive and noticed this.

Code:
1274 (3 members and 1271 guests)
I wonder how many are bots

I have been very vocal on that matter, but I don't see the relevance of FreeBSD on the desktop anymore. Alas I'm not even able to persuade my wife or sister anymore. There is the lack of Flash, the so-so Wine port (there are some applications which don't run in FreeBSD wine as supposed), problems with some default devices (like mice, keyboards) and so on. It's my desktop, it's the desktop for many people who can cope with it, but it's far from the desktop for the 'masses'. But there is Linux and it fills the gap. It's maybe not the best, but at least it's open source like FreeBSD :-)

+1 scottro
bsdforums is the "place" from where i've learned almost (if not all) things about freebsd. a "place" is useless without the people which "live" there.
those "inhabitants" moved here so IMO this is the place to be. no resentiments to bsdforums whatsoever except the spam problem just thanks for the knowledge i've aquired from the community. RIP!
and yes in respect to the community the so called admin should archive the forum, close it and point to daemonforums.

/v

I note this morning that the DNS entry for bsdforums.org has been yanked. The domain is still registered, though without an IP address.

Never mind. "Admin"'s two DNS servers are both down.
