Default kernel panic (amd64,5.1 release) on Aspire 5750

Hi there i'm new to the forum and OBSD in general, i'm hoping to drop two or three distro installs for OBSD, starting with my notebook. My goal is to run current so i instaled the snapshot and after rebooting it, the kernel panicked, then i installed the release version with the same results. It is worth noting that the installer presented this unusual line in both versions: " uhub0: device problem, disabling port 1" The outputs after install also have been the same but for consistency i'm posting the outputs for the release version:

Dmsg:

Is the list for this report also dmesg@ or there's another list for panics, similar to linux?

I'd really apreciate any ideas or pointers if possible

Thanks for your time and best regards

As a difference in both terminology & culture, the Linux community uses the word "distro" given that everyone uses the same kernel with differences only in userland & configuration. The *BSD world doesn't use this same terminology. Given that the *BSD projects coordinate everything together -- kernel + userland -- the term used in this culture is more "system".

No. The following link will give all information you will need to report this upstream:

http://www.openbsd.org/report.html

While I understand that putting together a good problem report takes time, I would recommend providing information for both 5.1-release & the snapshot used (including dmesg(8) from the snapshot...). As the dmesg(8) from OpenBSD 5.1-release states, -release was tagged in CVS mid-February. Development on -current (& your snapshot if it is recent...) has continued for another ~3.5 months. The project developers will be more interested in the results with the snapshot used than -release.

Thanks Ocicat for your fast reply and your generous welcome. It is because of BSD's culture of security and coordination (no patchwork and no reinventing unnecessarily ) that i'm trying to replace Linux in favor of OBSD.Particularly what u guys have done with malloc rocks everyone else (i'm an end user so particularly when i read about it got me thinking "wait the other systems are nothing like this, i've gotta try it".Sorry about the terminology though.
Thanks for the pointer this way i can report it as soon as possible
The outputs for the versions were exactly the same. The snapshot i used was from 20/05 but there's a new one from 25/05 i'll try that to see if it still persists then provide both.

Thanks for your time and best regards

Hello, and welcome. You may find the crash(8) man page helpful, as well.

Thanks for your kind welcome Jggimi. And also for the pointer.i must say it is astounding for someone coming from other soft cultures too see how much attention it's given by the devs to updating and writing the man pages especialy some like this one.

The OpenBSD project developers do put importance on the correctness of the documentation.

However, recognize that this site has few project developers as members who regularly join into discussion. Those who answer questions on this site are not officially affiliated with the OpenBSD project, however, some have contributed ports. This site's membership is composed of a number of enthusiasts ranging from professionals to hobbyists.

Warning -- acpi(4) includes heat management -- disabling it risks overheating computers that do not have apm(4) support. APM predates ACPI, so most modern i386/amd64 systems do not support it.

To elaborate on the impact of disabling acpi(4); Theo wrote in bugs@:
Code:
Most modern PC's will not run if the ACPI code is disabled. They will
break in a multitude of other ways, and you are not helping find the
bug AT ALL. The least of the problem is that the fan might not run.

They might map reigsters wrong. They might map interrupts wrong. They
will route interrupts from from behind ppb bridges. Disabling the acpi
codebase creates many crazy, crazy, crazy side effects.
