Default rarcrack 0 pwds/sec ?

I just tried to use rarcrack and it doesn't do anything. This is on AMD64. Are there any alternatives for guessing passwords on rar files?

Probing: '9' [2 pwds/sec]
Probing: '9' [0 pwds/sec]
Probing: '9' [0 pwds/sec]
Probing: '9' [0 pwds/sec]
Probing: '9' [0 pwds/sec]

Edit:
I have found a program called John the Ripper + instructions for rar files so I will try that.

Your post piqued my curiosity and I can confirm your experience with rarcrack. It didn't work for me either, even after playing a bit with the options. As the software hasn't been updated since 2011 maybe there are incompatibilites with modern rar files. Who knows...?

john-jumbo seems to work with the instructions you linked. I tried it with a password protected rar file I have (simple password: 6 letters 1 digit) but gave up after eleven hours. It would seem my C2D is a bit underpowered for fast bruteforcing. Bring tea, scones, and lots of patience if your computer is on the slow end.

The speed of password tries could differ radically depending on the OS you use. There was an old forum post I read, I think concerning rarcrack, where they said the password tries varied from 100s of tries per second, to thousands depending on the OS.

John worked great, but unfortunately it won't work out in my case. I remembered the files I rar-ed had a strong password, so it would probably take years to brute force them. But I do have some older backups so it wasn't a disaster.
