This is entirely opinion, I might think xfe is best, and for me it is, but George says Thunar is best, and Bryan says MC is best,... and then Joe, just does everything from a terminal emulator, he says xfce-4 is best,...I suppose the best method to determine which file manager is best is to try various ones, and then decide which one you feel is best. What do you mean "powerfull" GUI ? generally the more bells and whistles a GUI has, the more useless it becomes, but that is just my opinion,... Ahh, Lynx is a excellent browser, but also makes a great file manager,...http://nixnik.50webs.com/lynx/00_main.html

I would recommend mc, which is a free Norton Commander clone. Here's the description:

Quote:
Midnight Commander is a file manager for UNIX-like operating systems.
It bears a certain resemblance to John Socha's Norton Commander for DOS.

Some of the features are:

* Built-in Virtual File System: manipulate remote file systems through
the ftp or ssh protocol or Midnight Commander's own mcfs protocol.
Browse the content of the tar, compressed tar, rpm, zip, cpio, lha and
rar archives.

* All of the Midnight Commander operations work with the virtual file
system, enabling you to do complex tasks.

* Mouse support under X11's xterms.
GNU's Midnight Commander is a well-respected piece of software which dates from 1994. I would imagine any security problems it may have had have been ironed out by now. See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Commander
