Default PPPoE -> ADSL Router (Bridge) - Slow connect?

I have a Zyxel P660HW-T1 v2 ADSL router (latest firmware 3.40) which up until yesterday was plugged directly into my home switch for Internet access. As I wanted to add a better wireless setup, more advanced firewalling and some other features, I decided to build a new OpenBSD system to act as wireless ap/router/firewall and bridge to the Zyxel.

I have reconfigured the Zyxel router to Bridge mode, using RFC 1483 Encapsulation and LLC multiplexing. I'm in the UK and my ISP is Demon Internet. As I've been given a static IP, I've configured that within hostname.pppoe0. OpenBSD is 4.4-CURRENT i386 snapshot from 2008-12-27.

The Issue: It seems to take quite some time (~5 minutes) for the OpenBSD box to establish the ADSL connection via the Zyxel router. Once up, it is fine and seems to be stable, but it seems strange that it should take so long to establish the link.
