Post AMD64 - Hard Drive Partitioning

I have an AMD64 box, installed with M$ Windows XP. It's hard drive is split into two partitions/drives: C: (91,5 Gb) and D: (95 Gb). The idea is to shrink the D: drive's size (without losing data) so, that the space what would be left is used to a partition for an another operating system. I will then install FreeBSD (or other Unix-like OS) into my box with Windows (dual booting).
But I have a problem. I have tried GParted and Visopsys Partition Logic but they doesn't work because they support only i386 architecture, not amd64. I don't have any commercial partitioning applications (like Norton PartitionMagic). What is the best FREE partition management application for AMD64 arch that can shrink partitions without losing data?

I don't know is my English perfect (that's not my native language) but I think you understand well.

AMD64 and i386 are compatible, you can run 32-bit operating systems on your system.

The problem might be related to a different style of partitioning, 64-bit Windows might use GPT partitioning instead of the classic MBR-style kind.

Perhaps someone else here can help you with that.

Has the disk been configured as a "dynamic disk"? (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308424)

What error do you get with GParted?

Are you using GPT partitioning? (unlikely)

Ofcourse, if you have a spare disk you can just copy the contents of D: into it, then delete & (re)create a smaller D: partition.

AFAIK, AMD64/x64 uses the same MBR based partitioning that i386/x86 uses, GPT is only used in EFI-based systems (a.k.a: Intel Macs), normal windoze PC's use MBR based partitioning.

GPT can be used on normal disks, on normal PCs, using normal BIOSes. In fact, you have to use GPT if you want slices over 2 TB in size (or is it 8 TB?). The wave of the future is GPT.

Hey phoenix, you are confusing me a little. It would be nice if you could explain something about GPT and its advantages.
