Default Laptop lid close = stuck

I finally managed to install OpenBSD on my laptop. One problem that comes up is when I close the lid and open it back, the machine doesn't respond. I have to manually restart it. Any ideas on what the problem is??

Hello, and welcome!

From your description, your hardware configuration is unable to resume from a suspend. To disable suspending the system upon lid close, set the sysctl machdep.lidsuspend to zero. You can either edit the sysctl.conf file or append the setting, such as:

# echo machdep.lidsuspend=0 >> /etc/sysctl.conf

Then either reboot, or just set it manually.

# sysctl machdep.lidsuspend=0

Thankyou jggimi

I only want the screensaver to come up and lock the session anyway, when I close the lid. So, that entry does it for me

This setting is renamed in OpenBSD 6.2 to machdep.lidaction, so you now need to use
Code:
echo machdep.lidaction=0 >> /etc/sysctl.conf
