It seems self-explanatory.

The reasoning is syspatch on 2 architectures for 2 releases requires 4
machines, and therefore twice the handholding. It seems better to keep
the time available to start doing syspatches for more architectures.
Use available resources to provide the service for more people for a shorter time, instead of fewer people for a longer time.

"twice the handholding" pretty much says it all.

syspatch(8) has seemed like an unusual step to me. It's essentially sinking developer time into building binary patches for people who, for whatever reason, don't do it themselves (and for only two architectures at that).

You are probably not running OpenBSD for living. Even with only 15 production machines running OpenBSD syspatch has being an indispensable tool to my organization. Source patches which require kernel compiling can really tax remote anaemic machine used as firewall.

Even with 5. I used to deploy -stable, in order to manage this small farm, and had two build systems, for i386 and amd64. Deploying a syspatch(8) update is much faster and easier than building a -stable release(8) twice, and then running the upgrade scripts on each system.

And -stable builds are still an available solution should they be needed.

Yes as I said it's a convenience thing. (you seem to have incorrectly inferred that I don't see the point/need, etc)

I had a good laugh after first reading your first post then reading this. Then I figured the English language might not be your primary native language.

syspatch has been a much needed utility for a long time now.

How did you come to that conclusion?

I do not see any signs of low literacy level in that statement. It seems quite straightforward to me. The author is questioning the use of resources to maintain a utility that automates a process and is only available for two architectures. Others can agree or disagree with the opinion, but disagreement does not equate to the opinion holder lacking language fluency. (I made this post, because people with low fluency in the language often accuse me of not being a native speaker when they do not understand my elegant prose. It is never because my vocabulary and grammar are better than theirs. This post is off-topic, but the topic is a pet peeve of mine.)

Indeed, it makes one wonder why the the people who needed it so much ("administering 15 production machines") didn't step up before...

I appreciate the work that the developers put into syspatch. Thank you very much for your work!
