So how strong is the crypto used in bioctl? Twofish? AES256?

If you see my post on the previous page, I had the same problem. The AR5424 is pretty poorly documented, and I think there are a few different variants of the chip out there as well. Obviously this makes it very difficult for the devs to engineer support.

Luckily for you, it should be easy enough for you to swap your wlan card. I've had reasonable success with an intel 3945 wlan card, although I can't seem to get 802.1x authentication working (looks like wpa_supplicant doesn't have driver support for my nic) so if you need this it might be worthwhile searching for a compatible nic .

OpenBSD doesn't use wpa_supplicant, WPA is implemented in the kernel.

Well, now I have egg on my face again! Clearly I didn't read the man page for ifconfig thoroughly enough :\. I now see that 802.1x auth is mentioned under the wpaakms flag of 802.11 operation. That said, I can't see any more information on it in the man page..this does warrant some more investigation though!

Given this, I'm a bit curious as to why there is still a wpa_supplicant package that is being maintained with each release. Granted, it hasn't been updated since about 2007 or something..

Anyway, thanks for the heads up .

There is a port of security/wpa_supplicant.. but it's not used for WPA.

This was my fault, you never stated a desire to do WPA encryption..

This port is for wired authentication only (Ethernet PAE) and does not
support the wireless WPA/WPA2 functionality.
I hope that clarifies things, it often confuses new users that OpenBSD has WPA implemented in way that's different from the other BSD's and Linux.

Interesting...man wpa_supplicant tells a different story :S. It primarily talks about wireless networks, and has a list of compatible drivers for wifi cards.

Quote:
The available drivers to specify with the -D option are:

hostap (default) Host AP driver (Intersil Prism2/2.5/3).
(this can also be used with Linuxant DriverLoader).

hermes Agere Systems Inc. driver (Hermes-I/Hermes-II).

madwifi
MADWIFI 802.11 support (Atheros, etc.).

atmel ATMEL AT76C5XXx (USB, PCMCIA).
All of which is irrelevant in my case anyway because:
a) The man page is dated 28 May 2007
b) The wpi driver used by the 3945 card isn't listed (presumably it was created after May 2007)

Thanks anyway .

Smile t42p laptop

IBM T42p laptop.

APM works perfectly, hibernation too using tphdisk
Buttons work with tpb
the iwi0 driver gets the wifi done, but to get WPA to work I had to disable apm
in the UKC (This was back when I was running 4.5 so -current may work, not sure and I have no way to test).

Default ThinkPad T61 type 7661

Sound works (though there is no mixerctl setting for the mute button, even though the button works fine)
X works
ACPI sleep/suspend does not work
Display sleep works at least
Wired and wifi NICs work
Brightness controls work, though are a bit sluggish/slow to respond

That's all I've had a chance to test.

Yep, Lenovo support replaced it. They sent a tech out to my house and everything, pretty good service.

My only complaint now is that the middle "scroll" button beneath the Trackpoint doesn't work. But I read somewhere that this is a limitation of the hardware, not OpenBSD. I guess it would work if I disabled the touchpad in the BIOS, but I'm not willing to do that.

On FreeBSD I was able to use sysmoused to get the scrolling to work, I haven't investigated yet if OpenBSD has a similar utility (wsmoused?)

Using OpenBSD on a Thinkpad R32. Seems to work except for some xauth.core and openbox.core that keeps appearing :P

For those that want to help the OpenBSD project, be sure to send in the system information requested in Section 4.10 of the FAQ to dmesg@:
  • $ dmesg
Bonus points will be awarded to those who in addition send the output of the following:
  • $ sysctl hw.sensors
Theo mentions this in the following:

http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-tech&m=125682697626974&w=2

...however note that the command he gives requires mail to be externally configured (not done by default).

Greetings all, just an update for my Lenovo T61 and HP tc4200 to 4.6, below dmesg's and hw sensor output (had a T60 for a few months but ...)

I do also have Openbsd 4.6 on a white Macbook, seems to run pretty good it's not staying on though (macbook being sold soon too)

-> BSDfan666, i just saw that message where i had previously asked about my biometric scanner it seems it was in this laptop part ... my bad (mea culpa) for you latinists that may not understand ebonics )

So i have managed to aquire myself a T500 lenovo for Christmas? i guess (sold my T61 and S10e), OpenBSD 4.6 seems to like everything except some of my Card slot types and my firewire adaptor.

I also see a "not configured" next to my HECI inteface for the Intel video card (my HDMI output i assume) as well. I am hoping that the following is my video camera and am asking if anybody has any programs (Ekiga?) that may be able to use my camera/mic.
