For the past 5 years, I was Internet-only, via cable modem. Commercial streaming services - Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon - were used, via media servers such as a Sony PS3.
Prior to that, I was an IPTV user via VDSL. (This is similar to cable, but the media is delivered via a private IP multicast service and the set top box uses Ethernet.) Starting just this last week, I became a VDSL/IPTV user again, due to moving households. The streaming services remain in use. |

In my case, the building I live in provides cable TV (although there are indications this may end in a few years). It switched from analog to digital in 2006, and analog channels are by now either gone or almost gone, as the bandwidth is needed for digital. I still use the 2006-era digital cable box. It's SD and I don't have an HD or newer TV. Can't say I miss HD, but at some point the switch will have to be made when hardware breaks down, and it will be a bit daunting to get up to speed on the "new stuff".
