hi
hi
You are right i do not know exactly what i am doing, but i was able to to format those drives. creating the solaris2 file systems i assume are ufs i have over a terra of info on those drives. the drives are mounted as ufs on my Solaris box. i just am not understanding why i can not mount them on BSD or on vista UfS Explorer i wanted to be able to use all 3 OS and be able to write to my UFS Drives only on Solaris and BSD i do not want to be stuck using only one OS on this machine |

ZFS is being ported to FreeBSD. You see i am having a little problem. i have created UFS Solaris2 NFS on 3 drives They mount perfectly on Open Solaris. But i would like to have access to them anytime i log into FreeBSD or Windows Vista with UFS Explorer. Read only on Vista and R+W on BSD i was unable to see these Drives with the trial version of UFS Explorer and unable to mount them on FreeBSD. i can only imagine if it were the other way around and i created the UFS from BSD. Would Vista UFS Explorer be able to see those Drives and or would Open Solaris be able to mount them. It does get all to confusing.but i feel safe that i dont do any more accidental formats when they use to be NTFS Drives using Vista. |

{Open}Solaris/FreeBSD use different/incompatible imlementation of UFS than FreeBSD/{Open}Solaris.
With older UFS1 you may be more lucky. |

hi
hm
So i guess ill just wait around till things thaw out. i feel kind of stuck that i have not much of an option right now.as i have almost a terra of Data between those drives. i like to toggle from time to time from OS to OS when i need to do other tasks that cant be done on one. People have been using the term latly Slowaris it seems ok to me as far as speed and security. The new version Open Solaris 05 08 with Compiz. But Still Love Unix Like FreeBSD and OpenBSD alot |

Hmm, I have only one OS installed, and I still sometimes consider that as overkill [less is more] |

hi
Other tasks
Well i like to work with Digital Photography Programs like Power Director and Dvd Pro Lab Also some times i like to edit or Compose New Age Music. Games i prefer to use my Xbox 360 i really can not stand pc games and the joystick mouse issues. Also i like the idea that BSD is more or less built from scratch and not just out of the box. I like to understand the differences between commands under Open Solaris and FreeBSD They are similar in ways yet so differet in other ways Especially things like Useradd which is different on Open Solaris then it is on FreeBSD. |

As the objective is to share a slice between OSes, with ZFS you would be out of luck: not many OSes have an implementation.
AFAIK, best luck woul be with FAT32 (yeah) and ext2fs. Not quite file systems I would use for TeraBytes Besides, I would not dare, even to test, play with multiple OSes to access that amount of data. I ould rather build a server and go the mOnOwall/FreeNAS way. This in order to have a small OS and networking. Now the question: if you have an OpenSolaris (UFS/ZFS or whatever) based NFS, why don't you use NFS to access them? Why try to mount the directories under UFS? fwiw: Poposal for a Ext2fs project on OpenSolaris http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thre...82718&tstart=0 although there already are some ext2fs implementations. Go to OpenSolaris.org and enter ext2fs in the search. Re: Slowaris. I also have the feeling Solaris is less reponsive than OpenBSD. Maybe because OpenSolaris has everything and the kitchen sink installed and configured. Downloaded Milax miniCD, the new kid on the block (128MB) to check what is included and what not http://genunix.org/distributions/dss/index.shtml
