NoSQL database Redis 2.2 has been released. Described as "a monument to how much Redis 2.0 sucked" by its creator, Salvatore Sanfillippo, the new version works as a drop-in replacement for the BSD licensed key/value store.
The revised version focuses on optimisation of the database. It uses "an order of magnitude less memory" for storing lists and sets and has rewritten networking internals with some commands up to ten times faster. The virtual memory introduced in version 2.0 and the database's top level dictionary have also been optimised for memory efficiency.
