If I recall correctly, a whole bunch of domain names worked: bsdforums.org freebsdforums.org openbsdforums.org, etc. I believe "freebsdforums" was the original name, but later got changed to the more inclusive bsdforums.org

I called him on the phone, as did ocicat (at least once and possibly twice?) He promised to fix things ASAP, but that never happened...

IIRC the biggest problem was a change in the Terms of service which stated that all content you post is not the content of bsdforums.org, rather than your own. I don't remember the ads being brought up.

[ in response to a post on the previous page... sorry! ]

I can join with ircII, but do not know how to use xchat as a client to use the IRC channel (initial setup, usage, etc... of xchat. OR any other motif or gtk2 client... that might be more suitable
for novice usage.)

/edit/

Never mind, weechat + man pages, will use it eventually... ( freenode ) *then* may find out weechat > chat.taucher.net is probably just a slight variation on #freebsd on freenode ... which I've yet to
get working due to not understood too-terse responses from the upstream server... for a total
newbie to IRC non-windows.

Another (sub)forum found...
nixers.net/forumdisplay... has a BSD section. (Also a Hardware... Vps... Scripting...)
Appears to have more than just a few users, posts sparse in frequency but not in range of
subjects, etc.
