Mounting problems - unsupported inode size
I'm trying to mount an external hard drive:
# mount_ext2fs /dev/sd0c /mnt (I also tried # mount -t ext2fs /dev/sd0c /mnt )But I get the error: Code:
Ext 2fs: unsupported inode size mount_ext2fs: /dev/sd0c on /mnt: specified device does not match mounted device |

You're mounting the wrong device for one, sd0c represents the entire disk.. you should be using the letter indicated by the generated label, that will represent the partitioned portion of the disk.
To find the proper device node, examine the output of: $ disklabel sd0 Now, finally.. the inode size error is something of a problem, OpenBSD's ext2 implementation only supports an inode size of 128 bytes. A patch does exist to fix this problem, but it hasn't been approved yet.. if you feel capable of testing it, reply to that thread with the results. I hope that helps.. |

sd0 only contains c. (I had originally formatted the entire disk and put stuff on it without creating any partitions.)
How long does it usually take for a patch to be approved? Quote:

You might be waiting a long time, that patch isn't on the bug tracker.. unless people test it out.. there is a good chance it won't be approved.
As for the unpartitioned disk, that isn't a very recommended approach.. creating 1 large partition would have been the better option. |

Why is 1 large partition better?

The better question to answer is ask is how is the disk being used? Partitioning should follow usage.
At the same time, experience has taught me that allocating all space upfront may be handy, I have had longer term results by allocating only what is needed. Having unallocated space means that I can create one or several partitions later either in response to pressing needs or new needs. |

I'm using this as a backup drive for anything that I don't want to lose. It mainly sits on my desk not being used unless I'm copying over files to save from my main hard drive.
