Default NetBSD amd64 NVidia Quadro NVS 285 video card

The entire machine except the mouse freezes.

my video card

NVidia Quadro NVS 285 video card

on 64 bit NetBSD

Can it be that NetBSD amd64 has a driver problem?

http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadronvs.html

http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_14605.html

Here is the specs

http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56659

http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/40049/PO_QUADRO_NVS.pdf

64 MByte = 65536 KB

128 MB = 131072 KB

I tried with

# X -configure

and

# XF86Config

and inspected the generated files in /etc/X11/
with little help.

I also set the driver to "nv"

output of dmesg netBSD 4.0 amd64
http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56669

pcictl /dev/pci0 list
http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56672

pcictl /dev/pci3 list
http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56678

pcictl /dev/pci4 list
http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56680

on IRC I got this reply
http://wiki.netbsd.se/How_to_install_modular_Xorg

startx& starts with a better screen resolution

I can use ftp but on attempt to start firefox the entire machine
except the mouse freezes.

Sincerely

Morten

Hi
I appended two logfiles.

XFree86.0.log

NetBSD amd64 NVidia Quadro NVS 285 video card

http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56980

http://lordbyte.pastebin.org/56981

What can I do with this?
Please?

If I remember correctly a live CD of netBSD 3.something worked, that was 32 bit.
OpenBSD did as 64 bit instance x86_64 work after some minor troubleshooting.

It should be possible for me to troubleshoot this issue with netBSD without using pkgsrc modular x org server.

XFree86 I've been using for many years, but never amd64 instances.

Regards

Morten

I think people will take a look at this if you give them some time. I will do that myself. In the meantime I suggest switching to the VESA driver so that you have some sort of video if you haven't done so already. You won't get hardware acceleration or any other fancy features but X should run without crashing.

Hello

here I found an interesting discussion.

http://www.nabble.com/nvidia-Quadro-...html#a15190037

http://tinyurl.com/65qyx4

It would be helpful to find out where to discuss the topic and what debug logfiles to submit.

xfree86 is still in business? will it all be replaced with X.org ?
can I have both server installed?

on this machine I have this configuration

I'm not quite sure if it is 64 or 32 bits, but I hope the file configuration data can help.

The card did work on OpenBSD and debian linux. I "think" that was 64 bit.

What can I do please?

I haven't tried the vesa driver, but I noticed I could use firefox, if the resolution was low.
on larger resolution I observed keyboard freeze. I have tried the NetBSD Live CD and that worked.

How do I enable the VESA driver ? is it valid for x86_64 ?

NetBSD still includes XFree86 in their file sets because XFree86 is well understood on all the platforms that NetBSD supports. Support for modular Xorg is improving, but it is not considered to be stable enough yet for all platforms.

From what I have read, I would not recommend it.
