Default iwn0 not working

Hello,
I installed the firmware package as stated in the iwn manpage, but cannot get it to work.
Here is the dmesg, with a lot of cryptic errors:

I remember being able to get a malo0 to work, but this time I'm quite stuck.

1) confirm you have the proper firmware installed.
$ pkg_info | grep iwn
The installed version should be iwn-firmware-5.1, for OpenBSD 4.5-release. (There is a more recent "5.1p0" which is used with -current. If you have 5.1p0 installed, pkg_delete it and pkg_add 5.1 instead, and see if that solves your problem.)

If that does not help:

2) post your problem on misc@, where there are a number of x200 laptop users. Your problem is specific to the 5100AGN; you are unlikely to get a solution to a firmware problem with that particular chip here ... though we have one OpenBSD user here with a 4965AGN ... There0. There0 has not been online here since May. I've sent a PM on your behalf; perhaps There0 will return and comment.

Actually I do have one more suggestion, which may or may not help:

3) install -current. There have been a dozen patches to the iwn(4) driver since 4.5-release. It is possible that your problem has been fixed.

thanks a lot jggimi, in fact I had installed 5.3, now it seems to work fine with 5.1. Only now I don't seem to be able to get wpa working, but I'm working on it, I'm misconfiguring as usual...

Likely. And, as usual, you haven't shown your broken configuration, leaving us to guess. As usual.

There is an example of a WPA configuration in the iwn(4) man page. The example shows a configuration from the shell, using the wpa-psk(8) command enclosed in backticks, not single quotes. This is used in order to pipe its output into the ifconfig(8) command.
Code:
           # ifconfig iwn0 nwid my_net wpa wpapsk \
                   `wpa-psk my_net my_passphrase`
Another way of doing the same thing would be to issue the wpa-psk command in advance
and copy the output into your configuration. Example:
Code:
# wpa-psk gosha "gosha's pass phrase"
0x122ddcaae4d3be559349c21e8fcd5e5e08dd8399db135e0ab676f786f6b7b2df
# wpa-psk gosha "gosha's pass phrase" > /etc/hostname.iwn0
# vi /etc/hostname.iwn0
<edit appropriately.  Here's an example>
# cat /etc/hostname.iwn0
dhcp NONE NONE NONE nwid gosha wpa wpapsk 0x122ddcaae4d3be559349c21e8fcd5e5e08dd8399db135e0ab676f786f6b7b2df
