Just updating this thread,

The open source nv driver doesn't support the GeForce 91xx "embedded/motherboard" GPU's yet.

Adding support for it (..2D) should be as simple as adding the vendor/product combo to the NVKnownChipsets structure in nv_driver.c.

The 2D nouveau driver matches on family not chipset, so it should work automatically on your card.

Can you tell us if you resolved the issue?

Dear All:

Thank you so much for your time and detailed replies!
This is incredibly generous of you! Thank you.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy new wireless and graphics cards.
The lesson for me is that I will do *very* extensive research before buying any new computer. Also, I will never buy another Nvidia product in my life

Anyway, I will post again if I run into install problems.
As a side comment on my experience so far, I am absolutely amazed by the quality of OpenBSD. I have nothing against the others (in fact, I want all 3 on my HD), but the cleanliness and clear documentation of OpenBSD are outstanding!

Thanks again for your time!

@BSDfan

Sorry I forgot to answer your question!

Following your suggestion, I just installed the xf86-video-nouveau package (8.0RC1 AMD64) and ran

# X - configure

The configuration seems to have worked, but testing the X server with:

# X -config /root/xorg.conf.new

results in a core dump.

Over the weekend I will install the new wireless and graphics cards and will let you know. Thank you anyway for your help!
