One problem i have with this machine + OpenBSD6.0 is that following suspend/sleep I cannot enter any commands in shell or in x. In gui mode the screen also displays a scrambled color pattern. A reboot is required.
If any of you have experienced this please point me to a place where i can read on defeating suspend.

The machine has definetly cured my slow firefox browser.

Additional info is the machine came with a copy of Ubuntu 14.XX pre-installed from Dell. I used it without problems until I started to add and subtract packages. It was at this time that the Distro failed somehow in its
package management and refused to work correctly. Hence, have a nice install of OpenBSD which was going to happen sooner or later.................

It "appears" the problem with suspend was fixed with adding

"apmd -a" to sysctl.conf

Did you intend this to mean, perhaps, an addition to /etc/rc.local? That's not a sysctl structure you posted, its a command.

For daemon management, the best practice would be to use rcctl(8), which edits /etc/rc.conf.local for you. Thus:

# rcctl enable apmd
# rcctl set apmd flags -a

and then to avoid a reboot:

# rcctl restart apmd

Default apmd, apm

Yes, your suggestion is correct. (thanks)

However, desktop still goes to sleep and when a key is depressed I get garbage on
screen and have to reboot when in X

I did a little reading and entered the following
Code:
  $ apm
Battery state: absent (yep no battery) 0% remaining, unknown life estimate
    A/C adapter state: not known
Performance adjustment mode: manual (3312 MHz)
In addition /var/log/daemon reports essentially the same message

Conclusion apm, apmd does not know the A/C status for some reason and does it matter to it?

It appears that apmd(8) does not receive this information. But I've never used apmd with the -a option, and wonder if that has any influence on the apm(8) status report.

Have been looking in BIOS and attempting to set sleep/suspend with no luck yet.
When using computer I am exiting out of X to the prompt which does prevent the
current problem.
Have posted on-line with dmesg.boot as well as description of problem.

Well,
Please don't take this post as gospel as I certainly am not an expert.
Posted problem to misc@openbsd.org and received a reply that an Intel 6600 is a Skylake
CPU and others are experiencing the same issue when awakening in X from sleep/suspend.
Issue must then be documented in the system already.
