Default Install confusion

Reading through the post's,I notice some people that are installing Gnome2 are saying that it is taking about six hours or more to download, some chap said it took two days.I installed it in minutes, why would you want to install from source rather than pkg,is there a difference.

Fixing bugs, and there always are many. Patches are released pretty quickly (once fixed) and they then appear in ports. Packages follow much later. You can also customize the build options, which can be very useful. With a package, you accept the standard flags and cannot change them.
