Apache is going away in OpenBSD 5.6
Web server users will be interested in the following commit made today in CVS:
http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-cvs&m=139470541631278&w=2 Inclusion of the modified Apache 1.3 Web server will cease as of OpenBSD 5.6-release. [omna=8]httpd[/oman] is being removed from the base installation. The time has come to learn nginx(8)... |

Pretty cool changes, with both apache and sendmail getting replaced.

OpenSMTPD is simpler and easier to configure than Sendmail. Nginx has less features than Apache and this is a problem for me. Nginx does not process cgi-bin files and must pass these off to another process/web server. Why do I need Nginx if I must have another web server around anyway in order to process cgi-bin files? If I were doing high volume web transactions and needed a reverse-proxy, then Nginx is ideal. But I have a low volume server that uses cgi-bin so using Nginx just makes the process more complicated (less secure). Last edited by comet--berkeley; 4th April 2014 at 09:45 PM. Reason: grammar |

No one's saying you can't use Apache, it's just a pkg_add away now.
www/apache-httpd-openbsd is the previously in-base Apache. |

I've not tried the others listed above and I really don't want to try them; all my web server work is now in apache and I've recently decided to install OpenBSD (which, has been a "fun" fiasco - learning experience on my part); however, if apache were not available, I'd move on and look for something else. |
