Default issue with radeon graphic

Hi,
for a few weeks I've OpenBSD installed on a IBM Thinkpad R40e with Radeon IGP 330M.
In the shell it runs very smoothly
But they are some errors in dmesg, maybe you can help me to fix them?

dmesg:

Hello, and welcome!

Your radeondrm(4) errors have been reported on the misc@ mailing list, but to date it looks like a root cause has not yet been isolated. You may want to join the discussion there, as your problem report may provide an additional data point to help isolate and resolve the issue.

Thanks for your response!
I will have a look for a update to the radeon firmware.

Could it be a solution to make xorg.config file?
I don't need 3D-support or any multmidedia support.

If I've understood the problem correctly, you are still able to use X, only without 3D or acceleration. If you are not able to use X, I believe you have two choices:
  • write a custom xorg.conf to force the VESA driver to be used, or
  • disable radeondrm via config(8), which will cause X to automatically use the VESA driver.

Along with the config man page, see FAQ 5.9.

From the misc@ archives ...
Last entry in the thread on openbsd-misc and the latest radeondrm-firmware are from 2014-03-03.

So I think it's better to open a new thread.

I can't post URLs - sorry.

Thanks - but this is the message I've got when I try to send URLs.

Getting back on topic ...

I saw the conversation in misc@ today. You asked:
Quote:
I guess I can only wait for an firmware update?
No; per the answer you received, this is not a firmware issue you are having. Rather, OpenBSD would need to develop a port of the ATI components of FreeBSD's AGP driver. And if I understand the history properly, this particular component of FreeBSD's driver was not originally ported to NetBSD, which was the source for OpenBSD's agp(4) driver.

Then it means my issue can not be solved ...

Not immediately, no. You would need to await development.

I think the answer was definitive, as it came from Jonathan Gray, who is an OpenBSD developer ("jsg@").

Unfortunately, most hardware support development requires both a) an interested developer and b) direct access to the hardware by the developer. It's not known to me if any of the developers have the same hardware, or have an interest. If you had two of these video cards, and were willing to donate one of them, you might find an interested developer.

Or, you might consider porting the FreeBSD code to OpenBSD. That's the most common way that people become OpenBSD developers and join the project -- they have an unmet need, and an interest, and start learning OpenBSD internals and devising solutions themselves.

So I like to take this choice:
Code:
$ sudo config -e /bsd
WARNING no output file specified
OpenBSD 5.5-current (GENERIC.MP) #128: Sat May 24 09:46:38 MDT 2014
    deraadt@i386.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC.MP
Enter 'help' for information
ukc> disable radeondrm*
250 radeondrm* disabled
ukc> quit
not forced
$
But there are no changes in dmesg after reboot - the same errors?

Thanks for your support!

It looks like the example in the FAQ may be misleading. Use -f with -e if you want to revise the /bsd kernel:
# config -ef /bsd
Per the config(8) man page:
Code:
-f Overwrite the infile kernel binary with the modified kernel.
Otherwise, -o should be given to specify an alternate output
             file.

You're right!

I like to test this solution for a few days.

Thanks!
