Does <Shift>+<PgUp>/<PgDn> work?
Alternatively perhaps try booting in UEFI mode to see if the framebuffer will allow for a smaller text size.

No, but I don't think that's what you do on Unix. I think it's <SCROLL LOCK><PageUp|PageDown>.

However the documentation does say that the scrollback buffer is only available for certain hardware platforms so yours may be lacking that feature. EDIT: the install kernel doesn't have a scrollback buffer.
