NVidia 8600
Is there anyone on this forum using one of the NVidia 8xxx series cards with FreeBSD?
If so, could you post any issues you have encountered, the driver you use and steps to installing? ta |

I've got an 8400GS on my test machine, works fine although I'm probably using the 'nv' driver out of lazy ness.

for /x11/nvidia-driver/ to build I think you need kernel sources
you *might * want to do the following upgrade anytime some or all of them change (some of all of the entire list depending upon where the changes start.) Applies if you build most of them from source. (AFAIK), IANAE. ... xorg-server ; libdrm; dri ALSO libGL; libGLU ALSO libGWw; libglut; nvidia-driver; glclock; glxs each group seperated by semicolon should be run after the preceeding. ............................

Okay - as I installed the 8600 and ran xorg-configure a while ago, it struck me that i haven't actually checked the xorg.conf file...
it would appear that I am currently using the NV driver: Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: <i>: integer, <f>: float, <bool>: "True"/"False", ### <string>: "String", <freq>: "<f> Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "SWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "HWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "NoAccel" # [<bool>] #Option "ShadowFB" # [<bool>] #Option "UseFBDev" # [<bool>] #Option "Rotate" # [<str>] #Option "VideoKey" # <i> #Option "FlatPanel" # [<bool>] #Option "FPDither" # [<bool>] #Option "CrtcNumber" # <i> #Option "FPScale" # [<bool>] #Option "FPTweak" # <i> #Option "DualHead" # [<bool>] Identifier "Card0" Driver "nv" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "GeForce 8600 GT" BusID "PCI:2:0:0" EndSection I'm presuming that as I have a TFT monitor I could uncomment "FlatPanel". I may also give hardware acceleration a try, I take it I uncomment it and add false? |
|
|||
Okay, so I tried turning the hardware acceleration off to "False" and set it for Flatscreen. I tested it using the GL screensavers in KDE. Worked alright for a while, then when trying the setup for one, crashed out...

That's 2D acceleration btw.. |

Yes you generally need the system source to build loadable kernel modules.
