OpenBSD Porting Workshop January 3, 2018
I'll be running an OpenBSD porting workshop in NYC for NYC*BUG on January 3, 2018. It will likely be livestreamed. But if you're in NYC, you should come.

My guess is it'll be both livestreamed and recorded. So everyone wins.

Sorry for lame question. Does this workshop is going to talk about porting projects using specific technologies (C/C++ language, build system) or maybe it is going to be more general?
I am going to watch this anyway, if it will be recorded or live-streamed. Just curious.

I'm aiming to cover the basics of going from zero to a completed port ready for submission into the ports tree. So yes, we will cover at least the basics of dealing with different languages, at least C/C++ and Python, since I surmise those are the languages most new porters will be engaging with. And the basics of build systems, probably most likely make, GNU make, and cmake, since those are the most common.

Looks like it'll be the week after due to scheduling conflicts with the space (like really, people would rather go to a holiday party than an OpenBSD ports workshop?). Stay tuned!

If you're going to watch the livestream, no. If you're going to show up in person, yes. |

OK, it's now officially on January 3, 2018.

What's about porting a shell script, or even a ruby gem ?
|
|
||||
Shell scripts have been successfully ported. Here is one of mine.

Walk before running.
The truth of the matter is, more people are more interested in porting things that are C/C++/Python. Not saying there isn't a need to port shell scripts or Ruby gems, but that will likely have to be for another time. |

ibara, the whole workshop will be recorded for the oncoming generations, right?
|
|
|||
That is the plan, yes.

I’m glad to hear that. Due to different time zone I may not be able to attend it live and I’d definitely like to see the whole thing later.

Can you send the link to the live stream and later on to the video?
