Default A bug or something else?

Having an odd problem with a finnicky Toshiba Satellite notebook. The hard disc isn't recognized when booting from the install CD , and sysinstall reports "No disks found!" as soon as it gets to the partition editor. I've tried it with a few different versions of FreeBSD, including 6.3-RELEASE and 7.0-CURRENT (A while back), 7.0-RELEASE, and 8.0-CURRENT with mostly the same results. NetBSD chokes here as well. Debian GNU/Linux 4 installs OK. Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix it?

And what Toshiba model do yo have?

Right now I am using a Toshiba Satelite 6100 which is working fine with a 20 GB IBM harddisk, but refuses to detect the disk in BIOS if I try to use a 80 GB Toshiba disk. I never found out why.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this. Toshiba Model A215-S4757, the hard disc is a Fujitsu MHX2250BT, 250GB S-ATA Specs here. Mainboard is Toshiba IALAA v1.00 with ATI RS690 chipset and SB600 Southbridge.

It's because you have OLD bios, you need (if you can) update it, and you should be able to stick Bigger drives in your box....

You can make experiment.... put hdd disk that ain't recognized and install win XP SP2, if you cna do that, Then you need to update bios, if not, most likely your hardware is to old

I had same problem on my old PC

At a cold boot when the drive recognise try to change SATA IDE to Compatible Mode and continue install with the driver. Once you complete windows and Sata driver installations in windows come in BIOS and change to Enhanced Mode.

Is there an (easy) way to save the installer CD's boot messages to a USB flash drive/memory card? Other than that, the only way to post it here would be to type the entire thing by hand.

Did you try updating your BIOS like killasmurf suggested?

No luck mate. The BIOS is already at the latest version (2.00).

you need Livefs Cdrom (enter fixit mode)
Code:
$ mount -t msdosfs /dev/da0s1 /mnt (i suppose you got flash key)
$ dmesg > /mnt/dmesg.log
$ umount /mnt

Also check in your bios config for raid options or something...

I had problems when i changed ATA drive to SATA.... and i had to mess with some raid modes and stuff, to get my hdd to work..... (well my board is Abit AS-8, but see if anything in bios)
