kernel build failure

I am running 5_8_release amd64 platform on virtual machine

The procedure I followed to download source tree:

$ cd /usr

I set the CVSROOT variable to the server and then:

to follow -stable

$ cvs -d$CVSROOT checkout -rOPENBSD_5_8 -P src

then to build the kernel:

$ cd /usr/src/sys/arch/$(machine)/conf
$ config GENERIC
$ cd ../compile/GENERIC
$ make clean && make
    [...lots of output...]
# make install

the output I received from shell:

cmp -s bsd /bsd || ln -f /bsd /obsd
cp bsd /nbsd
mv /nbsd /bsd

I entered the above output and tried again with the same result:

Could something have gone wrong while downloading source tree?

Actually I don't see anything unusual.

Makefile for "make install" command saves older kernel as a backup as /obsd. Newer is /bsd.
If one would reboot and /bsd is fine, he/she will boot system with newer kernel. If something goes wrong, that person could manually type path to /obsd and will boot system with older (compiled earlier) kernel.
