If you will stay with FreeBSD you need to learn that is software related to the desktop (KDE< GNOME...Libreoffice) usually outdated which is not so big problem because drivers for graphics cards are not so brilliant.

To echo lumiwa, the BSD's in general are not the best place to try bleeding edge features in Desktops. If that is your goal, I would recommend Arch Linux/Fedora.
The BSD's have other features that makes them viable options for specific applications.

I agree but for example graphics/dri port is from 2009? It is anywhere a little slow update...IMO.

The FreeBSD ports tree is currently in a "slush" phase, due to the impending release of FreeBSD 8.3. This means that no large commits can be made to the ports tree until it's completely "thawed" (ie, after the 8.3 release is shipped). Thus, you will not find any large applications upgraded until after 8.3 is released.

This means things like QT, GTK, KDE, GNOME, LibreOffice, etc won't be upgraded for a few more weeks yet.

However, if you are really impatient, and are willing to be a guinea pig, there are experimental repos available that allow you to try new versions of QT/KDE. I leave it up to you to figure those out, though. If you aren't determined enough to search, then you probably aren't ready for the task.

There is a reason for this. Newer Radeon and Intel drivers use kernel mode setting (KMS) which is linux specific. It has been a challenge for the BSD's to work with/around this "feature". It is a goal to have the newer drivers for FreeBSD 9.1 and OpenBSD already has a partial implementation. If you search the web using KMS and BSD you will get more information.

On FreeBSD site is:
"FreeBSD® is an advanced operating system for modern server, desktop, and embedded computer platforms...."

My computer is old and I don't have a problem with modern desktop operating system but my wife has a new one and she had problems and because that on her computer are Linux and Windows.
