Installing gnome again
I recently installed gnome from packages and it just isn't working right (bunches of errors whenever I try to run startx that I can't remember off the top of my head). But the question I have now is not how to fix this, but if I wanted to reinstall gnome from ports, what process would I need to go through to ensure I am not double installing something or going to cause who knows what problems if I just blindly 'make install' without taking care of my previous install?

First do a "pkg_delete gnome2" or gnome2-lite or whatever you installed. Then you can perform the usual "make install clean". The port manager won't let you double-install, btw. You will get an error message that gnome2 is already installed.
Which version of gnome do you have installed? You may want to look at www.freebsd.org/gnome and look at the faq to make sure you have the various daemons and things installed properly. |

#xinit /usr/local/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc -- /usr/local/bin/Xorg -ignoreABI
................................... produces errors as well as #startx ? |
