Default acessing the root filesystem kernel module!

i am building a new boot splash screen for FreeBSD many things are now setted but i can't find information on how do i read the conf files from the disk can anyone point me out some info on it? The conf files is only to provide designers the ability to create themes, it will be some sort of moodin engine, but for boot stage....
