Default minicom: change from 80x25

I run minicom from debian

Code:
minicom -D /dev/ttyS0
I get a fine connection to my OpenBSD 5.8 box. I try to resize the screen with:

Code:
stty rows 35 cols 180
Now the screen is set up, but when I run vi the commands are all interpreted wrong or the display of what the commands do is wrong, ...an ugly situation in editing a dotFile. I installed cutecom and it won't run top or systat states, and even if it did, it wastes half the screen displaying the setup parameters. A really bad design.

I want to run minicom in an xterm, and resizing by the command line is fine. But the stty command doesn't appear to be it. I see there are some tput commands. I'll try searching on tput and minicom. Please let me know how to resize an openBSD shell in a debian xterm via minicom if you know how.

Thanks,
Sidney

Hello, and welcome!

I've noticed no one has yet come up with an answer -- and that may be because the audience here is relatively small, and your use-case may be unusual.* If no here has a solution for you, you might consider posting this question to the OpenBSD misc@ mailing list, which has a much larger audience, with wider experiences.

* I have only ever used serial port OpenBSD consoles with OpenBSD's cu(1) or the older, deprecated tip(1). I have not attempted to revise the logical size -- since I have only ever used these serial ports for installation, upgrade, and disaster recovery. All day-to-day remote shell connectivity is always via ssh(1) over networks, rather than via serial port connections, and I expect my experience is typical of OpenBSD users.
