GeoIP is the standard tool. In FreeBSD, you can find it at net/GeoIP

I've only used the programming aPI, but it looks like it comes with a few commandline utilities
Code:
[~]% grep bin /ports/net/GeoIP/pkg-plist
bin/geoiplookup
bin/geoiplookup6
bin/geoipupdate
bin/geoipupdate.sh

Thanks CarpetSmoker !
geoiplookup is a great tool .. but again checking one's current ip via ,for instance, http://www.whatismyip.com is unavoidable.Is there any tool that combines both ? I mean in the fashion of ip2nation .. it gets your current ip and geolocates it for you ?

In case you forget in which country you live?

% curl ifconfig.me | geoiplookup

or if geoiplookup doesn't read from stdin

% geoiplookup `curl ifconfig.me`

lol .. who knows when AD starts spreading across ?
Carpetsmoker, I sometimes use tor and because ExculdeNodes fails me I would want to know where I belong while behind proxy so as to avoid distant or troublesome nodes. .. I've been using ip2nation.com but a cli-tool would be better .
one more way but not quite what I wanted :
$ curl ip.appspot.com
which prints out public ip .. then I just geoiplookup it.
