playing songs in text mode
I don't have X11 installed, but I'm using VESA. Just wanted to know can I play songs or get my sound card working without installing X11. I'm asking this because I remember I tried loading kernel module for my sound card without installing X11 some time back, and it failed. But I haven't tried compiling kernel with sound card support.
Any suggestions . |

You don't need X11 or sound card support, sound cards are 100% handeled by the OS (FreeBSD) and X11 has nothing to do with it.
Try running this script: http://daemonforums.org/showpost.php?p=48&postcount=2 As for audio player, there are many console audio players, a few from teh top of my head: multimedia/mplayer audio/mpg123 audio/mp3blaster audio/ncmpc (Client for audio/musicpd)

Another console music player, with vi-like command mode:
audio/cmus edit: can also be controlled remotely over a network. |

I don't see then when I tried from secure shell or from X11 (earlier). Is it normal? |
